What is a QR code?

A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a type of two-dimensional barcode first designed in 1994. A barcode is a machine-readable label that contains information. A QR code uses standardized encoding to store data efficiently.

Today, it’s a common practice to share a Bitcoin address as a QR code and request a payment from another person. The receiver scans the QR code with a Bitcoin wallet app and sends the requested payment without having to type a lengthy Bitcoin addresses by hand. By using QR codes, users eliminate the possibility of a mistype that might send funds to the wrong wallet.

How do I use a QR code at a ByteFederal ATM?

At a ByteFederal Bitcoin ATM you can scan your QR code using our built in camera which will recognize your QR code and ask you to verify that the address is correct. The camera is located above the touch screen (see picture on the right).

Alternatively, you can scan your QR code using our barcode scanners, located below the touch screen. You will hear a “beep” sound when the scanner read your QR code.
